For some children, dental treatment in the chair simply is not possible – because of very young age, extensive treatment needs, severe anxiety, special healthcare needs, or previous distressing experiences. In these situations, dental treatment under general anesthesia allows all necessary work to be completed safely, comfortably and in a single session while the child is fully asleep.
The procedure is carried out with a qualified anesthesia team, after a thorough pre-anesthetic evaluation of your child’s health. Fillings, crowns, pulp treatments and extractions can all be completed in one sitting, and the child wakes with the treatment finished – with no memory of the procedure. Parents receive detailed guidance for preparation beforehand and care at home afterwards.
Very young children with extensive decay, children with special healthcare needs, extremely anxious or uncooperative children, and those needing a large amount of treatment that cannot reasonably be done over multiple chair-side visits.
